Any recommendations on how I can encourage my child to eat more nutrient containing foods?

The way you present food will help tempt your little one to eat up. Healthy eating simply means providing your child with a variety of different types of foods as different foods provide different nutrients. The main food groups:
Fruit and vegetables – for vitamins, minerals and fibre. To make them more interesting cut brightly coloured vegetables and fruit such as carrot batons and tomatoes into fun sized pieces. Use bright colourful bowls and decorate plates with a smiley face made with small pieces of cheese and vegetables. Pretend broccoli florets are trees and stick them in mashed potato.
Starchy foods – like bread, potatoes, pasta, rice – are good sources of energy and should make up the main part of your childs meal/snack.
Protein foods – protein foods should be included with each meal. Milk, chicken, meat, fish, beans and pulses, eggs.
Dairy – dairy foods provide calcium, for bone development! 3 dairy portions every day is an easy way to meet your child’s daily calcium needs – that means a glass of milk, one piece of cheddar type cheese, and a yogurt or a fromage frais such as Petits Filous. Dairy also provides protein and other vitamins and minerals. Portion sizes should be adapted to the age and appetite of your child.
